Description

Documents what account deletion now does and what signing up again gets, for layer5io/meshery-cloud#5825 and layer5io/meshery-cloud#6006 (server change: layer5io/meshery-cloud#6282).

  • Users concept page, Account deletion.
    • Memberships end and are kept as ended records.
    • API tokens are revoked.
    • The email address is released.
    • Owned organizations and teams are handed on to the longest-standing admin, else the longest-standing member. One with nobody else in it is deleted.
    • The refusal case narrows to a credential held for an organization the person does not own.
    • Registering again with the same address, on Layer5 Cloud or a custom domain, creates a new account with a new ID that inherits nothing.
  • Delete your account guide.
    • The new steps.
    • A new "Organizations and teams you own" section.
    • The narrowed "When deletion is refused" section, which the Users page links to.
    • A new "Signing up again" section.
  • Managing users guide. The owner-deletion succession rule and the narrowed refusal.

The branch has master merged in. master had restructured the Users page meanwhile, so its structure is kept and this content is applied to it.

Notes for Reviewers

Merge after the server PR ships.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Clarified that account deletion is atomic and ends memberships, removes roles, revokes tokens, releases the email address, and removes sign-in identities.
    • Documented ownership transfers for organizations, teams, and designated credentials, including when deletion is refused or resources are deleted.
    • Clarified that published content and audit records remain after deletion.
    • Updated re-registration guidance: a reused email creates a new, empty account without prior access or associations.

…registration on account deletion

Deleting an account now hands each owned organization and team to its
longest-standing admin, else its longest-standing member, else deletes
it; keeps ended memberships as history; and releases the email address
so signing up again creates a new account that inherits nothing.

Master restructured the Users concept page and the managing-users guide
since this branch was cut. Resolving it keeps master's structure and
applies this branch's content to it: owned organizations and teams are
handed on, memberships are kept as ended records, API tokens are
revoked, and the email address is released so signing up again creates
a new account. The narrowed refusal case keeps its section, which the
Users page links to.

Use the eligibility condition for deletion.

Line 98 excludes deleted and guest accounts from succession. If those are the only remaining members, “nobody else belongs” is false, but no eligible successor exists. Change this to “when no eligible member remains” and apply the same wording in content/en/cloud/concepts/identity-and-security/users/_index.md Line 127.

Document the parent-organization exception.

This line says that an organization or team with nobody else is deleted. The detailed guide says that a parent organization of a live child remains and keeps the deleted account as owner (managing-your-account.md Line 102). Align this summary with the documented behavior.
