The release notes for v1.4.1. One commit, docs: RELEASE-NOTES.md for v1.4.1. Merge this before publishing the draft release: gh release edit v1.4.1 --notes-file RELEASE-NOTES.md reads the file from develop.

What the notes cover

Written against v1.4.0. v1.4.1 was already tagged at 39b22c3 (#110–#117), so scripts/draft-release-notes.mjs refuses to run, and the facts were measured by hand, the script's way.

• Highlights: project settings can no longer loosen the agent (fix(agent): a folder's settings no longer change what the desktop agent may do #113), the task list and the queue on Enter (feat(agent): a task list, a hand-back box, and Enter that queues — plan and progress like Claude desktop #115), Ask When Risky (feat(agent): Ask When Risky — a reviewer model rates each command before it runs #112), memory from you and Search Sessions (feat(memory): memory from you — remember/forget credited to the words you typed — and Search Sessions #114), the working light (feat(chat): a light travels round the message box while LevelCode works #116, style(chat): a thinner, quieter working aura, and the focus ring steps back while it turns #117), and LevelCode in a browser tab at app.levelcode.ai.
• New settings: agent.approvals, agent.reviewModel, sessions.memory.notes, chat.workingAura, all user-only. New command: Search Sessions. Nothing was removed and no default changed (diffed from the two tags' package.json).
• Not in this release: Ask When Risky has only had a scripted reviewer; the task list, the hand-back and remembering have only been driven by scripted models; Send now is text only; no Windows or Linux build. The line "the Sessions panel still does not search", carried since v1.0.5, is gone: Search Sessions closes it.
• Test coverage: 137 gate files (126 in v1.4.0); 80 suites with 1,407 counted cases (70 and 1,252 in v1.4.0). Seven suites print N passed or N passing and are not counted.

Decisions taken for these notes (owner, 2026-10-20)

• The updater's settings and levelcode.init.enabled can still be set by a folder in 1.4.1. Not mentioned here; to be fixed in 1.4.2.
• The browser edition is announced.
• Ask When Risky is presented as new, with the caveat that no real model has reviewed with it yet.

Checked

• The suites at the tag: 137 files pass on macOS. The release workflow's test job (Linux) passed on the tag, and both builds and the draft finished.
• Each feature claim was checked against the code at the tag: the settings' descriptions and scopes, chat.html (the "Plan 2/5" bar is gone; no light under forced colours), the Sessions panel's search icon, and which memory lines carry their age.
• app.levelcode.ai answers with the editor. Whether a sign-in at levelcode.ai lands there depends on production configuration and was not checked; the notes don't claim it.
