feat(calls)!: unified call clients, SIP trunks and call settings - #262
Conversation
Authenticate the lifecycle and media sockets with the client token directly, add explicit answer, join, leave and end operations with per-answer claims, receive each participant's video separately, and expose call settings. Sync the Messaging and Platform contracts with the monorepo branch.
Move signaling, WebRTC negotiation, lifecycle and media sockets, media framing and data-channel handling behind package-private ./internal subpaths in @polymorfa/calls and @polymorfa/browser. Public entry points keep CallsClient, Call, audio/video tracks with neutral frame and source types, errors, token types, createBrowserCalls and the controller type. Participant video exposes labels and streams instead of source handles and transceiver mids. The coverage ledger marks the WebRTC signaling operations as used internally by the Calls SDK.
…d Cloud API fields
Add Client.sipTrunks, the routing fields of session call settings, and the call.connection_joined/left webhook types. Contracts are synced to monorepo commit 750ca5636 (local, unpushed).
Sync contracts to monorepo commit 4f72b47e8 (local, unpushed).
Sync contracts to monorepo commit 575b75f67 (local, unpushed).
Sync contracts to monorepo commit 3d0e90fb0 (local, unpushed).
Add callsEnabled to session call settings and sync contracts to monorepo commit e16c68419 (local, unpushed).
@polymorfa/calls and the browser client map calls_disabled refusals (REST and media socket close 4403) to CallsDisabledError and do not reconnect.

A token refresh no longer reuses a provider call that was not refreshing, and an older call cannot overwrite the refreshed token. A camera upgrade that fails to attach its track releases it. SIP trunk creation requires the configuration its direction needs, and the project check before a trunk change uses the caller's request options without the idempotency key. Tests resolve the browser package from source.

- Around line 781-784: Update `#bridge`() to await a media-ready promise when
`#externalMedia` exists and media is not yet ready, resolving that promise from
mediaConnected(). Reject the promise from `#mediaFailed`() and `#end`() when the
call terminates before media connects, while preserving the immediate path for
already-ready media.

…lity reports - Call.leave() ends an outbound call that is still ringing, and only marks the call left once the leave request succeeds, so a failed leave can be retried. The media-failure release stays best-effort. - CallsController keeps a placed call ringing until the callee answers for every backend; the React stage shows Ringing only in that state. - Capability reports carry only the reported flags through the socket mapping and IncomingCallRelay; the controller merges them with the call's current capabilities. - A placed call whose early answer reports no video opens no camera.
…fa/sdk/calls packages/calls stays the source workspace but is private; the root build compiles it and the root package exports and packs it under ./calls.
Node 22's WebSocket reports a refused or rejected handshake with an error event and no close, so the lifecycle connect() and media connect() waited forever. Treat an error before open as a 1006 close.
… settings Re-pin contracts to monorepo d2217b84f. Session call settings report and accept conferenceMode (default true): participants you connect hear the WhatsApp party and each other when on, only the WhatsApp party when off; nobody hears their own audio. includeSelfAudio is removed, and updateCallSettings rejects it before sending, naming its replacement.
…clients
Re-pin contracts to monorepo 1681cdaa9 (t3code/calls-unified-5-client-
diagnostics), which adds POST /messaging/voip/calls/{id}/reports.
- MessagingClient.voip.report() sends quality or error reports, with
VoipCallReportRequest types and validation that mirrors the strict
schema.
- createBrowserCalls/CallsController report each connection's getStats
figures every 15 s and on close, reconnect counts, and error codes for
device, ICE, negotiation, stalled-media, give-up and unsupported-browser
failures (diagnostics: false opts out).
- @polymorfa/sdk/calls reports media timeouts, token failures, reconnect
give-up and reconnect counts for socket media (diagnostics: false).
- Reports are best-effort: never retried, dropped on 429/503, stopped
after any other 4xx, and never affect the call.

… state A successful answer or join left its resolved promise in place, so a later answer() or join() on a connected or ended call resolved instead of rejecting with invalid_state. Clear it once it settles; concurrent calls still share the in-flight attempt.
…, isolate token cancellation - leave() and disconnect() wait for an accept still in flight and leave the call on the platform if it succeeds, instead of only dropping it. - A placed call applies call.accepted to its claim (answered, answeredBy, exclusive, including an exclusive placement) and emits claim. - Concurrent token requests share one provider call under its own signal: a caller's cancellation rejects only that caller, and the provider call is cancelled once every cancellable caller has gone.
…a/browser use its Calls client - packages/typescript is now the @polymorfa/sdk workspace. It compiles the private packages/calls workspace into dist/calls and exports ./calls and an internal ./calls/internal subpath. The repository root is a private workspace root, so npm ci resolves @polymorfa/sdk locally. - @polymorfa/browser depends on @polymorfa/sdk instead of the unpublished @polymorfa/calls and imports only @polymorfa/sdk/calls(/internal), so browser apps get one copy of the Calls classes. - Packaging tests install only publishable tarballs and prove that a CallsDisabledError raised by browser signaling is an instance of the class exported from @polymorfa/sdk/calls. - CI packs every workspace; installing from the GitHub root no longer installs the SDK, and the README describes the tarball install.
Resolve conflicts with #263 (UI polish): - packages/elements/src/base.ts: keep dev's relocated, layered BASE_STYLES and add this branch's button:disabled rule to it. - packages/elements/src/calls.ts: keep this branch's incoming-call block (answering guard, failure notice, join/dismiss, exclusive answer) and apply dev's pmfa-btn-primary class to Answer and Join. - CHANGELOG.md: keep every Unreleased entry from both sides.
Summary
Unified Calls for the SDKs: one neutral calling surface with no session modes and no calling tickets. Applications place, accept, reject, invite, leave and end calls, and receive merged audio and per-participant video. WhatsApp signaling, ICE and negotiation stay inside the SDK. Also adds SIP trunk management, call settings (merge-on-update, revision guard, calling switch) and
CallsDisabledError.Breaking: replaces the Calls contract published on September 7, 2026 (modes, client-token wrapper, socket and agent tickets). The new packages work only against the matching API revision.
Companion PRs: the monorepo stack polymorfa/polymorfa#182, #183, #184 and #181 (API, runtime, Console, Admin, docs), polymorfa/cli#9. Contracts are pinned to monorepo commit
